Biography

Willie Isangura was a Tanzanian boxer who fought in the heavyweight division. Isangura competed at the 1980 Moskva Olympics where he lost in his opening bout to Grzegorz Skrzecz after the referee stopped the contest. He had better success at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia, when he won bronze. The following year he won gold at the African Amateur Boxing Championships in Kampala, Uganda, with victory over Kenya’s Crispine Odera. Isangura fought at his second Olympics, moving up to the super-heavyweight class for the 1984 Los Angeles Games. He lost to the eventual silver medallist Francesco Damiani after the referee once again stopped the contest.
