Biography

Ghanaian-born high jumper Amewu Mensah represented Germany at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and finished eighth. She came to Germany in 1979 at the age of two years as a foster child to a German family at Wilmersdorf. In 1999, Mensah won the German national title at the high school indoor championships and in 2000 won her only German national title. In 2001 she was banned from competitions for two years due to doping violations with oxandrolone.

In 2000 Mensah became ambassador for the globally operating aid organization “World Vision”, a Christian, non-denominational aid organization with a focus on long-term development aid and humanitarian emergency aid. She studied biochemistry and chemistry, and worked with the Swiss research institute for atmosphere and climate at the ETH Zürich.
