Description

Ghana first appeared at the Olympics in 1952 under its colonial name, Gold Coast. It did not attend the 1956 Olympics, but competed from 1960 through 1972. After boycotting the 1976 and 1980 Olympics, Ghana has attended the Olympic Games from 1984 through 2016, Ghanian athletes have won four medals at the Olympic Games, three in boxing, and a bronze by the 1992 men’s football team. In 2010, Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong, known as “The Snow Leopard”, competed in alpine skiing at Vancouver, the first appearance by a Ghanaian athlete at the Winter Olympics. The best performance was achieved by Ike Quartey who won the only silver medal for Ghana in the 1960 light-welterweight boxing.
