Biography

Gun Ädel was a Swedish cross-country skier who won six relay titles with Edsbyns IF at the national championships (1961–64, 1966, 1967). Ädel was selected to compete in the 5km and 10km events at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympics, with her best result coming in the latter, finishing in 17th. In the 5km race she finished last of the 32 athletes to start the event, more than eight minutes behind the winning time of Klavdiya Boyarskikh. Ädel had been given the lowest start number of the Swedish skiers in the race, with her then suffering an unfortunate bit of bad luck. She missed the start of the race by five minutes after the organisers changed the start time, who then informed the Swedish ski jumpers instead of the cross-country skiers.
