Biography

East German figure skater Bodo Bockenauer from East Berlin finished 16th at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympic Games. At the World Championships he placed 11th in 1961 and 20th in 1966, then representing West Germany. At the European Championships he was 13th in 1959, 15th in 1960, 8th in 1961, and 6th in 1962. From 1960-62 he won the East German Championship.

In 1963 Bockenauer defected to West Germany and claimed two national podiums in 1965 (third) and 1966 (second). He eventually started a professional career with his greatest moment coming in 1967 when he won the World Professional title. He then started coaching and moved to Switzerland in 1968.
