In January 1936 Ercole Cattaneo and his wife Anna won the Italian championship in the pairs figure skating event. Their performance earned them a place at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics, which took place a month later. The Cattaneos finished a credible ninth at the Games out of the 18 pairs that competed. The pair continued to compete after the Olympics, finishing sixth at both the World and European championships in 1937, followed by tenth at the 1938 World championships, before all competitions ceased due to the war. After the war Cattaneo returned to the Olympics for the 1948 St. Moritz Games where he worked as a judge in the figure skating programme.
