Biography

Jacques Christaud-Pipola was a prolific international bobsledder in his youth, attending five European Championships, six World Championships, and two Winter Olympic Games in 1968 and 1972. In both editions of the Olympic tournament he competed only in the two-man bobsled event, placing 20th out of a field of 22 competitors, and 11th out of 21 competitors in each respectively. He never again competed in the Olympics after 1972, but played a role in each tournament from 1976 through 1992. In 1976 he returned as the coach of the French bobsled team, and by 1980 he was president of the French Federation of Ice Sports and a member of the International Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Federation. As 1984 rolled around, he remained president of the French federation and was also a commentator for France 2, one of the country’s public national television channels. Finally, he was a member of the selection committee for the 1988 and 1992 French Winter Olympic delegations. In 1995 he organized that year’s Bobsleigh World Cup, which was broadcast in 14 countries by the Eurosport satellite and cable network.
