Biography

Volodymyr Ivanov was a seven-time boxing champion of the Russian Federation, and twice a Soviet Champion, in 1968 and 1972. He competed at the 1972 München Olympics, losing in the quarter-finals to the eventual champion, Gyözo Gedó, in a close decision.

Ivanov was from Volgograd where he worked from his youth at the Krasny Oktyabr hydroelectric plant. After the Olympics he boxed for a few more years but then attended the Volgograd State Institute of Physical Culture, where he studied the theory and methods of boxing and weightlifting, and later worked as a coach.
