Czech-born Peter Draisaitl was an ice hockey forward who competed at three Winter Olympics with the West German and the re-unified German teams in 1988, 1992 and 1998. In total, he earned 165 international caps, scoring 39 goals, and played in seven World Championships. He was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.
Domestically, Draisaitl played with Mannheimer ERC (1983-90 and 1992-94), Kölner Haie (1990-92 and 1994-98), Moskitos Essen (1998-2000) and Revierlöwen Oberhausen (2000-01). In 1995, he won the German national title with Kölner Haie. At Oberhausen, he also started his coaching career, working with REV Bremerhaven, Straubing Tigers, Eisbären Regensburg, Füchse Duisburg, Ravensburg Towerstars, before he entered the German pro league DEL (Deutsche Eishockey Liga) at Nürnberg Ice Tigers. He then had several more stations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, also coaching DEL-club Kölner Haie from 2017-19.
His son Leon Draisaitl was named German Sportsman of the Year in 2020 after leading the NHL in scoring while playing with the Edmonton Oilers.
