Biography

Right winger Thom Eklund started his career in 1977 with Västerås IK and played there until 1981. From 1981-84 he was with IF Björklöven and from 1984-92 played with Södertälje SK, winning the 1985 Swedish title with them. Eklund finished his career in Italy by playing with SHC Fassa from 1992-94. Eklund was capped 193 times with the Swedish national team.

He won Olympic bronzes in 1984 and 1988, was 1987 World Champion, winning silver at the 1986 Worlds. He also won silver at the 1986 European Championships and bronze at the 1983 European Championships. Eklund was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #126 in ice hockey. After finishing his playing career, Eklund worked as an ice hockey coach with Almtuna IS, Wings HC Arlanda, Upplands IF and Enköpings SK.
