In the early 1930s Åke Ekman was one of the best speed skaters in Finland. Ekman won the Finnish championship in 1931 and 1932, with each skater competing across four distances to determine the best all-round athlete. He specialised in the 5,000 metres, winning the stand-alone race in 1931, 1932, and 1935.
Personal Bests: 500 – 45.4 (1936); 1500 – 2:25.6 (1935); 5000 – 8:35.6 (1934); 10000 – 18:05.9 (1934).
