Biography

Ernesto Franceschi was an Italian winter sportsman who competed during the 1930s. Franceschi first had success in 1932 when he was part of the team that became the Italian ice hockey champions. Staying on the ice, he then switched his focus to the bobsleigh where he had further success during the rest of the decade. He won six Italian titles, four in the four-man event (1933–34, 1938–39) and two in the two-man event (1935, 1940). At the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics he was part of the second four-man sled that represented Italy. After posting the fifth-best time in the first run, the team failed to complete the second run and were therefore eliminated. Tragically Franceschi was only 30-years-old when he died in February 1943 due to an accident whilst on a ski trip.
