Uruguayan lightweight boxer Gualberto Gutiérrez won several national championships as well as fighting bouts in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. Gutiérrez won silver at the 1959 Summer Pan American Games after losing to Abel Laudonio. The following year Gutiérrez competed at the 1960 Roma Olympics where he lost to Eddie Blay of Ghana. Gutiérrez made his professional début in 1961 when he won his first fight. He made a strong start to his pro career, winning his next 11 bouts, before retiring with a record of 14 wins out of 18 fights. After his retirement Gutiérrez moved to Australia where he spent the rest of his life.
