After a long ski career, Jim Galanes, a three-time national champion, turned to coaching and a career in civil engineering. He coached with the US national team from 1986-1992 and then became the Nordic head coach at the Stratton Mountain School in Vermont until 1995. From 1995-2006 he was the ski coach at Alaska Pacific University. He has since formed Jim Galanes Consulting, a civil engineering group that consults on land use and land planning issues.
