Biography

Born in Montana (Switzerland), but raised in Basel, Emil Handschin played for EHC Basel from 1945-62. He also represented Switzerland at the 1948, 1952, and 1956 Winter Olympics, winning a bronze medal in 1948. He played in 17 Olympic matches, scoring four goals. Handschin won World Championship bronze medals in 1950-51 and 1953, and won six medals at the European Championships – gold in 1950, silver in 1951, and four bronzes – 1947, 1949, and 1952-53. He later established his own plumbing company Emil Handschin AG.
