Biography

Josef “Peppi” Heiß was an ice hockey goaltender who competed at three Winter Olympics with the German teams in 1992 at Albertville, 1994 at Lillehammer, and 1998 at Nagano. In total, he won 140 international caps, and played in nine World Championships from 1990-98. He was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

Domestically, Heiß played with SC Riessersee (until 1986), Düsseldorfer EG (1986-88), and Kölner Haie (1988-2001). In 1995, he won the German national title with Köln. After his active career he enjoyed a coaching career with Augsburger Panther, EC Hedos München, and finally at lower league clubs. His daughter Stella became an Olympic curler and World Champion.
