Tibor Holéczy started his sports career as a cross-country skier of Újpest Dózsa. He won the Hungarian championship a total of 37 times in team, relay, and individual disciplines. At the 1968 Grenoble Olympics he represented Hungary in three events in cross-country skiing. He was the first Hungarian to complete the Vasa cross-country skiing competition in Sweden.
After his active sports career he worked as the general secretary of the Hungarian Ski Association between 1978 and 1998. The Hungarian skiing sport owes a lot to him after the Hungarian cross-country and biathlon sports underwent enormous development under his leadership. He dreamt up and realized the cross-country and biathlon center in Galyatetó. The Junior Biathlon World Championship was held there in 1991. Between 1984 and 1998 he was present at five Winter Olympics as a team manager.
Tibor Holéczy also worked on the foundation of roller skating sport. He was the founder and President of the International Ski Roller Association in 1991. At the 1988 European Roller Ski Championships, which were also held in Hungary, the Hungarian team finished second in the relay, which has been considered an outstanding result ever since. His daughter Beatrix Holéczy competed twice in the Winter Olympics in the biathlon.
