Czechoslovak ice hockey forward Karel Holý began his professional career with Sparta Praha in 1974. Holý remained with the club for more than a decade, apart from one season with Dukla Jihlava in 1979-80. He played in more than 420 matches in the Czechoslovak League where he scored 120 goals. Towards the end of his domestic career he joined the German side ESV Kaufbeuren in 1986 before finishing his playing days with the Finnish team IPK. From 1976 to 1983 he also played in 27 matches for Czechoslovakia and was part of the squad that competed at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. Prior to making his senior international début Holý won silver at the European Junior and World Junior championships in 1975 and 1976, respectively. After his career he worked as the chair of the disciplinary commission until 2018.
