Biography

Eddie Johnson competed as a featherweight boxer at the 1948 Olympics, after defeating LSU boxer Doug Ellwood in the US trials. At the London Olympics Johnson won two matches but then lost in the quarter-finals to South African Dennis Shepherd, who went on to win the silver medal. At the time of his Olympic participation Johnson was in the US Army. Johnson stayed in the military and was a career non-commissioned officer.
