Biography

Erik Hämäläinen started his professional hockey career with his hometown team, Rauman Lukko in 1982. From 1988-92, he played with KalPa Kuopio and from 1992-95 played with Jokerit Helsinki. With Jokerit, Hämaläinen won Finnish titles in 1992 and 1994. From 1995-98, Hämäläinen played three seasons in Sweden with AIK but then returned to Lukko, where he played until 2001. In 2001-02 he played one season in Switzerland with SC Langnau Tigers, but then again returned to Lukko, where he played until the end of his career in 2008. Internationally, Hämäläinen played 108 games for Finland. He participated at four World Championship tournaments (1992-95), winning one gold (1995) and two silvers (1992, 1994). He was also part of the Finnish 1994 Olympic ice hockey team, which won the bronze. After finishing his sporting career, Hämäläinen has worked as an assistant coach with Rauman Lukko.
