Biography

When he was young Slovenian sportsman Ivo Jan played football and tennis before switching his focus to ice hockey. Jan had a prolific career with HK Jesenice, which saw him win 11 titles in the Yugoslav league. During his time at Jesenice he was often paired with Viktor Ravnik, with both players attending a training camp for the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings in 1968.

Jan made his international début for Yugoslavia in 1962 in a match against France. He went on to play in 145 matches for the national team over the next decade, scoring 101 points. Two years after his début he made his first of three appearances at the Olympics, playing in eight matches at the 1964 Innsbruck Games. He had an impressive record at the 1968 Grenoble Games when he scored seven goals in six matches. The 1972 Sapporo Olympics were his last for Yugoslavia, with him playing in all five of their games and scoring two goals. Jan’s younger brother Bogo also played ice hockey at the same three Olympics.
