Biography

Frankie Sodano boxed as a flyweight at the 1948 Olympics, after defeating Pappy Gault, later manager of the 1968 US Olympic boxing team, at the US Olympic Trials. Sodano was also 1948 AAU flyweight champion, and won the Diamond Belt tournament that year in Philadelphia. Sodano turned professional in November 1948 and fought through 1954, winning 49 fights, losing 8, with one draw, but he never received a title shot. Sodano was inducted into the South Philadelphia High School Hall of Fame in 2002.
