Biography

Herbert Kessler skated alongside his brother, Charles Kessler, at the 1936 Winter Olympics. Herbert Kessler also played for Switzerland at the World Championships in 1935 and 1937-39, and at the Spengler Cup in 1936-37 and 1939. At the Worlds Kessler won silver in 1935 and bronzes in 1937 and 1939. In that era the World Championships doubled as European Championships, giving him four European medals with golds in 1935 and 1939, and silvers in 1934 and 1937.

Kessler played most of his career at right wing and for Zürcher SC, although he had brief stints with Zürich City, Gebirgsbrigade 12, and Bern HC. Kessler retired after the 1941/42 season and became an international referee. He was also the Swiss hockey team leader in 1956. His career was in banking in Zürich, although he eventually moved back to Davos for health reasons, where he ran a small bed and breakfast.
