Biography

East German cross-country skier Eberhard Klessen finished 16th in the 50 km event at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Games. He also placed 27th in the 30 km event. In 1971, he won the East German title at 50 km. In 1970 and 1973, he also won relay titles with ASK Vorwärts Oberhof.

After his active career, Klessen became a cross-country coach, and after reunification was a part of the German national team, and worked for the Thuringia Skiing Association at the Olympic Center Oberhof. In 2012 he was named coach of the year in the cross-country category.
