In 1974 Czechoslovak biathlete Antonín Kříž became the junior world champion when he won gold in the 10 km race. One year earlier Kříž won bronze in the relay event at the championships, repeating the feat at the 1974 edition. His performances earned him a place on the national team, with him going on to finish 17th in the individual event at the 1976 Innsbruck Olympics. Two years later Kříž competed at the World Championships, finishing ninth in the individual event and sixth in the relay. In 2017 he was inducted into the Czech Biathlon Hall of Fame.
