Biography

George Kerr was a member of the Fitzwilliam Club in Dublin, and in 1898 travelled to Paris to take part in the first ever professional tennis tournament in France. He was beaten in the final in five sets by to Tom Burke at the Paris Tennis Cub, Auteuil. At the Paris Olympics two years later, Kerr was again beaten by Burke in the final of the professional singles. The two men teamed up, however, to capture the doubles title. Kerr later coached youngsters at Dublin’s Lansdowne Club.
