Biography

Nanceen Perry was a sprinter who ran at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, winning a controversial bronze medal in the 4x100 relay. The medal was first rescinded after the revelations about Marion Jones’ drug usage, but after an appeal by Perrry and her other teammates, the IOC overturned the decision and restored the medal, although not for Jones. Perry also ran the 200 metres at Sydney but did not get past the semi-finals.

Internationally Perry competed at the 1996 World Junior Championships, 1999 World Championships, and the 1999 World University Games, running the 200 and 4x100 at all three meets. At the 1999 World University Games she won gold in the 4x100 and a bronze medal in the 200 metres.

Perry ran collegiately at the University of Texas. At the NCAAs she was third in the 200 in 1997 and fourth in 1999. At the USA National Championships she finished third in the 200 in 2000 and fourth in 1999. Perry was world ranked #9 in the 200 in 2000. She was ranked in the US top 10 in 1996-97 and 1999-2000, with high rankings of #2 in 2000 and #4 in 1999. At 100 metres she ranked #6 in the US in 1999 and #7 in 2000. Perry was inducted into the Longhorn Hall of Fame in 2009.[2]
