Biography

Hans Leutenegger was a man who excelled in many fields. He began his athletic career as a gymnast, but soon discovered that he was more suited for bobsledding. His only major international medal in the latter sport was an important one, winning the four-man event at the 1972 Winter Olympics alongside Werner Camichel, Edy Hubacher, and Jean Wicki.

By this time Leutenegger was also doing well in another field, the corporate world, having started the construction firm Hans Leutenegger AG in 1965, a business that is still in profitable operation as of 2014. In 1981 he tried his hand as an actor, and found success for several years, although he gave up this vocation in order to focus on his business interests. By this time he was a millionaire and, moreover, a well-known and much-loved figure in his native Switzerland. Although long retired from active competition, he remains athletically active in a variety of pursuits.
