Biography

Árpad Csánadi played both basketball and football for Hungary as a youth. He was co-opted onto the IOC in 1964 and served as vice-chairman of the Medical Commission in its early years, serving for nine years in that position. He was on the IOC Executive Board from 1975-78 and was elected again in 1982. Unfortunately he only served for one more year before his untimely death in 1983. During his time on the Committee he helped found the Commission for the Olympic Programme, serving as its chairman from 1971 until 1983. He also served on the Commission for the Protection of the Olympic Emblem, was on the Co-ordination and Supervisory Committee for IOC/NOC Relations, and was a technical advisor and Honorary Sports Director of the IOC from 1979-83.
