Pedro, Baron de Güell was the son-in-law of Santiago, Baron de Güell, an earlier IOC Member for Spain. Pedro, Baron de Güell was a lawyer and bank director. In sports he participated in sailing, golf, and equestrianism. He served as Vice-President of the Spanish Olympic Committee and was President of the Organizing Committee for the 1955 Mediterranean Games. He also hosted the 1965 IOC Session in Barcelona. Pedro de Güell was co-opted onto the IOC in July 1952 and served alongside his father-in-law for two years, until his death. Pedro resigned from the IOC in June 1985, after which he was named an Honorary Member. In 1986, after his mother’s death, he renounced his title of Baron de Güell, which was his by marriage, and retook his birth name and title of Pedro de Ybarra, Marquis de MacMahon.
