Santiago, Baron de Güell served as President of the Spanish Olympic Committee from 1924-26, after its reorganization. He was from a wealthy family that had business interests in shipping and cement. He was an IOC Member for a bit less than two years, serving from June 1921 until he resigned in 1954. Baron de Güell became blind later in life and died when he fell into the sea while walking along a cliff-top path that he knew well. His son-in-law, Pedro, Baron de Güell, also later served on the IOC.
