Biography

HRH Prince Nawaf Faisal is a member of the House of Saud, the ruling family in Saudi Arabia. He graduated from King Saud University in 1998 with a bachelor of law degree. Prince Nawaf Faisal later became President of the Saudi Arabia Football Federation, but resigned from that post in 2014 after Saudi Arabia exited early from World Cup qualifying. He also served as President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, and in that post, was named to the International Olympic Committee in 2002. He resigned as President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee in 2014, and that also caused him to drop off the IOC. Prince Nawaf Faisal has also served as President of the Federation of Arab Olympic Committees, and has been an ambassador for Peace and Sport, a Monaco-based NGO.

Prince Nawaf Faisal was a deputy president of Youth Welfare in Saudi Arabia, and became President-General of Youth Welfare, within the Ministry of Youth and Sport, in January 2011, serving in that role until June 2013. Prince Nawaf Faisal was involved in controversy in early 2012 when he stated that Saudi Arabia “[was] not endorsing any Saudi female participation at the moment in the Olympics,” though he did say Saudi women were free to do so as long as their participation did not violate Islamic Shari’a law.
