Biography

Kikis Nicolaou Lazarides graduated from Southampton University in 1958 with an economics degree and entered the banking world as an accountant. He was assistant comptroller of banks in the Cyprus Ministry of Finance from 1958-63, and then was manager of economics research and planning at the Central Bank of Cyprus from 1963-69. In 1970 he became CEO of Cyprus Popular Bank Limited. He also served on the boards of several corporations and organizations in Cyprus.

In 1975 Lazarides was named chair of the Cyprus Sports Organization, serving through 1983. In 1980 he was elected President of the Cyrus Commonwealth Games Association and in 1984 Lazarides became President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, holding that position for 24 years. He was co-opted onto the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2002, staying on the IOC until 2005.
