Biography

Robin Mitchell was a Fijian physician who earned his medical degree from Adelaide University in Australia. He worked as a family medicine physician from 1977-2012 and then devoted himself to sports administration.

Mitchell served as vice-president of the Oceanian National Olympic Committees from 1989-93, then was secretary-general and has served as President from 2013 through 2022. He was a member of the executive council of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) from 1989-2008, was then vice-president and later served as President of ANOC from 2018 through 2022. He was also on the foundation board of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) from 2001-18.

Mitchell was co-opted onto the International Olympic Committee in 1994 and has been a member of the Executive Board since 2017. He was vice-chair of the Medical Commission in 2014-15 and then of the Medical and Scientific Commission from 2015 through 2022. He also served as chair of the Olympic Solidarity Commission from 2018 through 2022 and became vice-chair of the Olympic Channel Services in 2022.

In addition, Mitchell has been a member of the following IOC Commissions: Medical (1995-2014), Olympic Solidarity (2000-), Coordination for the Games of the XXVII Olympiad Sydney 2000 (1999-2000), IOC 2000 (1999), 2009 Congress (2006-2009), Ethics (2013-18), Coordination for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020 (2013-21), Nominations (2014-15), IOC Members Election (2015-), Women in Sport (2020-21)
