Oskar Ruperti studied law at Cambridge, Heidelberg, and Berlin. He was admitted to the Hamburg Bar in 1903 but practiced law for only a few years, concentrating on business starting in 1906. He was on the board of the German Oil Company, with their own industrial oil business. After World War I he became Chief Executive Officer in chemical industrial firms, including the BV Aral AG and the Chemical Engineering AG Bochum, held seats on many supervisory boards, and was one of the most important industrial managers in Germany. Ruperti was President of the German Rowing Federation from 1919-26, and headed the German Rowing Team at the 1912 and 1928 Olympics, but resigned his sporting posts when his oil business took too much of his time. An IOC Member from November 1924, he thus resigned that post in April 1929. Ruperti remained Honorary President of the German Rowing Federation from 1926 until his death in 1958.
