Biography

Joaquim Santos was a medical doctor who served as Secretary-General of the first Brazilian Olympic team in 1920, and he later headed the country’s Olympic delegation in 1936. As a sports administrator Santos served as President of the Sao Paulo Athletic Sports Association, the Corinthians Sports Club, and the Sao Paulo Shooting Federation. He was President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee from 1951-62, and was originally President of the Organizing Committee for the 1963 Pan American Games in São Paulo, but died the year before the Games were held. Santos became an IOC Member in April 1923 and served until his death,
