Biography

At only 14 years, 5 days old, Kathy Horvath was the youngest player to ever play at the US Open in 1979, a record that stands through 2023. She played on the WTA Tour from 1981-89, winning six singles titles and reaching a top world ranking of #10 in 1984. Her best finishes at Grand Slam events were reaching the quarter-finals at the French Open in 1983 and 1984. In 1983 Horvath famously defeated Martina Navratilova in the fourth round at the French Open, which became important as it was the only defeat suffered by Navratilova that season, when she dominated the women’s tour.

Horvath later attended the University of Pennsylvania and then obtained an MBA degree at the Wharton School of Business. She worked on Wall Street until 2003.
