Biography

Mark Ruiz was originally from Puerto Rico but competed in diving for the United States at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics. In 1999 he won all three individual events at the US Spring Nationals (platform, 3- and 1-metre springboards), the first diver since Greg Louganis in 1988 to accomplish that feat. At the Pan American Games Ruiz won gold in the 1999 springboard and bronze in the 2003 synchronized platform.

At the 2000 Olympics Ruiz competed in three events – springboard, platform, and synchronized platform. Among US divers only he and David Pichler (2000) have competed in three of the four diving events through 2021 at the same Olympics.

Ruiz later taught diving clinics in Florida. In 2010 his former team, Team Orlando Diving (TOD) merged with the YMCA of Central Florida and became YCF Diving and Ruiz was named head coach of the new club.
