Biography

Anglo-Welsh writer Walter Roberts received an Honorable Mention at the 1948 London Art Competitions in the category Literature, Lyric Works for his work Greetings to the Olympians. He wrote several poetry books, among others: The Banquet and Other Poems, Forbidden Tree, and Images of Tomorrow. Critics said “he goes back to something which seems to belong to an eighteenth century tradition. He has description and reflection worked out in verse which moves easily. He breaks away from the compact, elusive style so dominant in recent verse and takes the reader back to a more sociable and relaxed method of writing”. For the art exhibition in Helsinki in 1952 he wrote the Ode of Welcome to Helsinki.
