Biography

Dutch painter and graphic artist Bertha van Hasselt studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Den Haag. Her favorite motifs were portraits, landscapes, city scenes, church interiors and floral still lifes. Van Hasselt later taught at the Den Haag Academy. The Miss. F. K. in Fencing Costume was probably of Friederike Koderitsch, a Dutch foil fencer who was eliminated in the preliminary round of the 1928 Amsterdam Games.
