Biography

Michał Bylina was a painter, graphic artist, and illustrator. He was painting mostly battle scenes depicting the glorification the of Polish Army and Polish history. During World War II he took part in the defensive war in 1939 and in the Warszawa Uprising. After the war, he created the Order of the People’s Republic of Poland.

Bylina studied in Warszawa (Warsaw) from 1922 at the College of Fine Arts under Tadeusz Pruszkowski and Władysław Skoczylas. Before and after World War II he was artistic director of the publishing house Nasza Księgarnia and from 1956 professor at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts (teaching from 1945). In 1954 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

In 1932 he submitted the painting Riding, which is shown in the catalog of art competitions. The paintings entered in 1936 could not be identified.
