Biography

László Lichteneckert was a versatile Hungarian track and field athlete. In 1907, he drew attention, winning the combined event of the meeting of his club Székesfehérvári TC. In the following year, he placed third in the long jump of the Hungarian Championships and second in the trials for the 1908 London Olympics. He was entered, however, for the 200 and 400 m runs in London but did not compete.

Lichteneckert continued to enter the podiums at national meeting, mostly in the long jump but also in the high jump and in combined events. He was again entered for the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, this time in the pentathlon, but again did not compete. During the following years, he also wore the colours of the MAC. In the long jump, he won silver and bronze at the Hungarian Championships in 1913 and 1914, respectively.

Lichteneckert served in the Austro-Hungarian Army in World War I but was taken POW by the Russians in 1915. It is conveyed that he even competed in the POW camp against other prisoners. After the war, he returned to the track and his last reported win was in a 300 m run in a local championship in 1921.

After his active career, he turned to coaching and worked as a national federation coach for the Hungarian Athletics Association (Magyar Atlétikai Szövetség). In the late 1940s, he worked as a coach for prominent Hungarian clubs such as Salgótarjáni SE (SSE) and Ferencváros (FTC).
