Kai Schwensen

Kai Schwensen was entered in the pentathlon at the 1912 Olympic Games but did not start. Less than a month later, he went to the United States for the first time. He first represented Næstved Idræts Klub but transferred to Københavns FF in 1909. Schwensen played football for Næstved but later focussed on track & field, twice winning silver in the high jump at the Danish Championships (1908, 1910) and bronze in long jump (1910).

Schwensen worked as a librarian and emigrated to the United States in the late 1910s, becoming a US citizen in 1931. During his service in the army, he also wrote about military history. In 1918, he married Alfhild Marie Evensen Madsen (née Krarup). The couple ran a farm in South Carolina. However, they later divorced after a son had been born. Schwensen died only a few years later on a trip abroad.
