Živko Vastić

Živko Vastić, a farmer from the town of Žarkovo, now a neighbourhood of Beograd (Belgrade), was entered for the marathon at the 1912 Olympic Games after placing second in the Serbian qualifications. His participation in Stockholm, however, was prohibited by the then Serbian King Peter I Karađorđević. He claimed that “as a peasant he would not be able to manage and represent Serbia in the right way”.
