Brendan O’Reilly was a high jumper who was entered at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics because the Olympic Council of Ireland did not have the funds to send him to Australia. O’Reilly qualified for Melbourne after winning the 1954 British AAA Championship. He went to college in the United States, studying drama at the University of Michigan.
After returning to Ireland, O’Reilly became a television personality on RTE television. He also contributed to other television shows, including his own variety show, “The Life of O’Reilly”.
