Biography

As a youth, Lyubov Galkina played volleyball and handball, before taking up shooting. Galkina was selected to the Russian national team in 1997, while studying at Ural State Technical University, from which she graduated with a metallurgical engineering degree. During her career, Galkina has competed at three Olympics, reaching the final in all of her five Olympic appearances. She won Olympic gold in 2004 in small-bore-rifle, three positions and Olympic silvers in 2004 and 2008 air rifle. At the World Championships, Galkina has won two golds (2006 in small-bore-rifle, three positions, individual and team) and two bronzes (2002 in small-bore-rifle, three positions, team event and 2006 in air rifle, team). Galkina is also a seven-time European champion and has won the World Cup three times. She is married to a Russian shooter Yevgeny Aleynikov, who won bronze at the 2000 Olympics in air rifle.
