Biography

Jirí Vanek was a Czech tennis player who played professionally from 1995 to 2011. Vanek achieved a career-best singles ranking of #74 in the world in October 2000 and a doubles ranking of #94 in the world in February 2006. Although he won 11 singles and one doubles title on the Challenger and ITF Futures Circuit, he never won an ATP title. His best performance on the ATP Tour came when he and compatriot Tomáš Zíb finished as runners-up in the doubles at the 2005 Mexico Open.

At Grand Slams Vanek made it as far as the second round on three occasions at the French Open (2000, 2006, 2008) and once at the Australian Open (2000). In 2000 he played at the Sydney Olympics, beating Wayne Black (ZIM) in the first round before losing to Max Mirny (BLR) in the next round. He returned to the Olympics eight years later in Beijing but lost his opening match in straight sets to Mikhail Yuzhny (RUS). Following his playing career Vanek became a tennis coach working with former world number one Karolína Plíšková. He later coached Petra Kvitová with the pair eventually marrying in 2023.
