Sabrina Bertini

Sabrina Bertini was on the Italian volleyball squad at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the first Italian women’s team to compete at the Olympics. She was a spiker and played on the national team for many years. At the age of 20, she earned bronze at the 1989 European Championships in Germany. Two years later she won the gold medal at the 1991 Mediterranean Games, under coach Sergio Guerra, beating Turkey in the final 3-0. After a disappointing 1994 World Championships in Brazil, in which Italy placed 13th, Bertini took another European bronze in 1999 in Italy. In total she earned 290 international caps.

Nationally her career began in the 1987-88 season with Olimpia Teodora of Ravenna. She was with this club for nine years, earning four consecutive Italian titles (1988-91), one Italian Cup, two Champions League titles (1988, 1992) and one Club World Cup (1992). In the 1996-97 season she moved to Volley Bergamo where, in two years, she took two Italian titles (1997-98), two Italian Cups (1997-98), the SuperCup twice (1996-97) and one Champions League in 1997. She was then hired by Napoli, where she won one CEV Cup (1999). In the 2000-01 season she moved to Volley Modena, where she won four Champions League titles. Her final clubs prior to her 2008 retirement were Imola, Promo Firenze, and Santa Croce in the Second League.
