Biography

A member of the Port Arthur Bearcats and a native of the town, the 1935 runners-up to the Allan Cup that represented Canada at the 1936 Winter Olympics in the ice hockey tournament, Raymond “Ray” Milton was of Finnish decent and had previously tried his hand at boxing. At the Games, he played in two matches, but did not score any goals, and acquired a silver medal with the rest of his team. He left the Bearcats at the end of 1936 and moved to Kirkland Lake, playing hockey with the Lake Shore Blue Devils (who won the Allan Cup in 1940) and working at the local mines. When they closed, he found work as an explosives plant manager and a technical salesman. He was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 as a member of his Olympic team.
