Biography

Jimmy Morgan attended Washburn University, and competed in bobsledding from the mid-70s through 1981. In 1975 he was on the champion 2-man sled at the North American Championships, and was runner-up that year in the 4-man competition. Morgan competed at the 1975 Worlds in the 2-man, placing seventh.

In 1981, at the World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Morgan was driving a US 4-man sled which was in ninth place going into the last run. On the final turn of the final run, the sled caught a groove in the ice and the sled flipped over. Morgan’s neck was broken and he died instantly. The announcer for ABC television at the meet that day was his brother and fellow bobsledder, John Morgan, who watched the crash.
